Bird's Aggressive Early; Flyers Win On the Isle

The Eagles made a big splash on the first two days of NFL Free Agency, break out the champagne right? Not so fast. The signing of Asante Samuel and Chris Clemons are both good moves by the Eagles but in no way sure up this defense or this team. There are plenty of holes left to be filled, now by the way the Eagles have started out so far I have reason to believe that those holes will be filled. By whom? Your guess is as good as mine. The Birds are in need of a receiver but practically all of them are off the market already. Javon Walker is the only "name" remaining and he's got not only knee issues but whining issues as well. Walker has successfully whined his way out of a second NFL city, he's a problem the Eagles are not fond of having. So the only other real option is the Lito Sheppard card the Eagles now hold. All this talk of moving Sheldon Brown to Safety and keeping Lito is just sports talk radio nonsense. First off moving Sheldon to Safety, how do you know it will work? And if that move is successful how happy do you think Lito will be playing across from the Eagles newly minted multi-million dollar man? Lito will still want money, and to his defense he's grossly underpaid. Apparently, there are at least 15 teams who have inquired about Lito's services, all offering draft picks and players. You might be thinking to yourself "whoa, hold on a minute Mike, you don't trade players for players in the NFL." That USE to be true, but now the cap is so high in the NFL that teams are able to keep there own players and free agency hardly exists, so trading players for players is now a very realistic possibility in today's NFL. Now as for the pipe dream that is Lito Sheppard to the Cardinals in a deal that somehow brings Larry Fitzgerald to midnight green nation seems to be just that, a pipe dream. Fitzgerald is owed 32 Million Dollars over the next two seasons and guess what? He wants a new deal too, and don't they all? Will the Eagles pursue Fitzgerald? Yeah, they probably will ask. Are the Cardinals dumb enough to make the deal? Well yes, but I believe most teams can come up with a better offer. The Eagles would undoubtedly have to not only send Lito but also throw in some picks as well. Could it happen though? Realistically? The more I think about it , the more I think it could, but it could just be the fan in me. However, the "sports journalist" in me says no way in hell.

Flyers beat the Islanders on Long Island today 4-1, suck on that Luke. On the bright side that goaltender of yours is a hell of a stick handler. More on the Fly Guys later as well as the 10,9,8, 76ers............
