Sorry Brett, You're Overrated

  • Most Career Passing Yards

  • Most Career Pass Attempts
  • Most Career Games With at Least 3 TD Passes
  • Most Regular Season Wins By a QB

All the records above are very impressive, there is no debating that. Brett Favre was a GREAT Quarterback. Certainly one of the best of all-time. However, Through no fault of his own, the media has over-hyped Brett and his career. Since Favre announced his retirement late last week, the debates have begun. On radio, TV, and newspapers throughout the country,"Is Brett Favre the best QB of all-time? Top three? Top five?" The answers are no, no, and no. Again, Brett Favre was a GREAT Quarterback. However, he may not even be the best Quarterback in his teams, the Green Bay Packers, history. Yes, Brett has ALLLLLL those records, but he has only one ring. Bart Starr was winner of Super Bowls I and II, and winner of Three NFL Championships before that. And did I mention Starr was also the MVP of both Super Bowls? Brett Favre's Super Bowl winning performance was overshadowed by Desmond Howard. Now I feel like a broken record but I'm saying it again. Brett Favre was a GREAT Quarterback. However, media and fans alike have gotten carried away with Brett Favre. I know he's a "gunslinger" and a "man's man" and all that. That doesn't make him the best QB of all-time. His numbers certainly speak for themselves, and they say that Brett was one of the best of all-time at his position, just not the best, not even close. Guys like Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Dan Marino you could go on and on listing guys that played while Brett was playing that you could make the argument that they were as good if not better then Brett. In the end Brett Favre's legacy is being tarnished by outlandish remarks about him being the best of all-time, it's nonsense. Why can't we remember Brett Favre's career like we should? A scrappy, gutsy gamer. A guy who played like a kid in the backyard, and when he won celebrated with the joy of one. In the end why can't we remember Brett Favre as one of the best? Isn't that enough? I think if you asked Brett he would think so.
