The Orange and Black defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 Monday night to take a 2-1 series lead in the best of seven series. The Flyers controlled the play early on taking a 3-0 lead into the the third period. Everything seemed to be running smoothly until the men with striped shirts decided to get involved. Derian Hatcher was sent to the box with a 5 minute misconduct penatly when he was called boarding. The Canadiens scored two goals on that power play which made the game tight for the remaining six minutes or so. More on this game and what it means heading into game four.
After a big Flyers game like this we like to ask Justin Angeline what he thinks. Why? Justin is a very passionate Flyers fan with some very interesting opinions, once you get him going sometimes he gets you just as pumped as he is. So now Justin speaks on Monday nights Flyer win over the Montreal Canadiens:
Your MVP of game 3? Why?
Justin: "Anyone would say Martin Biron, and they wouldn't be wrong. I would say Mike Richards however. This is a guy that scored his first goal of his playoff career on a penalty shot. He is no Kimmo Timonen, he's a Philadelphia Flyer penalty killer on crack. Richards is kewl as hell no matter what the situation on the ice is. He scores goals, finishes checks, and plays that game in every aspect that a Philadelphia Flyer fan would respect. Hence why he was signed to the contract that he was given by the Flyers early this season. "
Your thoughts on game 3's officiating?
Justin: " John Stevens has taught this team how to keep their kewl, to let the other team do what they will and for his team to keep their composure. As a homer you'll always see the officiating as one-sided. And there has been some questionable calls especially tonight. Having to deal with the leagues best power-play is challenging enough without getting called for questionable penalties. The Flyers have dealt with it really well so far. A lot of the credit should go to John Stevens, and on the other hand the younger players have to be given some credit as well. Your best penalty killer they say should be your goaltender, and Biron has been great. Obviously, I didn't like the officiating because I'm a freely admitted homer. I believe the officiating toward the Flyers the entire playoffs has been sub-par at best. Even when good calls have been made others seemed spiteful and some what childish. "
Key to a game 4 win for the Orange and Black?
Justin: " Martin Biron and our fans being loud as hell. We play the same way we've played the first three games and not be timid and stay physical. Game 3 the Flyers were finishing every check early and once we were called for a couple penalties for perhaps being to aggressive we seemed to become a bit timid. So staying out of the box is important, however, when we do get penalties we have to be aggressive still."
