The Phillies officially named Adam Eaton their fifth starter today. Are you surprised? I'm not , I wouldn't have been surprised either way to tell you the truth. Now, we all know Eaton certainly didn't win the j

ob, but didn't he lose it? It was his job to start with correct? And they always say in sports, "it's his job to lose." So the Phils are saying he didn't lose it? Listen, I know the Durbin twins, and Travis Blackley didn't pitch all that well either, but they all (with the exception of J.D) pitched better, in my mind, then Eaton. I mean it looks like the wheels have completely fallen off. It looks like Eaton will face the Mets twice in April , along with the Astros and Reds. The Reds maybe he can squeak by, but he could just get pounded by the Mets and Stros'. It's not like there isn't available arms our there to get. You not only have free agents like Claudio Vargas (Joe from 4 for 4 is a big fan) you have guys who have fallen out of favor for one reason or another like Anthony Reyes in St. Louis. Now I KNOW these aren't huge names , these aren't "aces" but most of them are better then Adam Eaton. And most people would say, "they gotta play him, they are paying him all that money." Well, if you release him or play him, you gotta pay him either way. And when it comes to "wanting to get something out of him," I think we've gotten all we can handle from Adam Eaton. He's a baby, he doesn't look like an "athlete," he doesn't have the demeanor of one either. And if your looking for him to act bothered by sucking so bad, good luck, he doesn't look the least bit worried or upset by his recent suckiness. And if your not going to sign someone, why not give one of the young guys a shot until Kris Benson is ready? Andrew Carpenter perhaps? If your worried about "ruining" a young "impressionable" kid like Carlos Carrasco or Josh Outman. Carpenter has pitched at the college level and won , pitched one year of A ball and won 17 games. And oh yeah, the Phils didn't even invite him to camp. Ooops! They said he gained too much wait. All that info according to the great Bill Conlin from the Philadelphia Daily News. The Phillies seem so afraid to use young players, so they let the "veteran" guy like Eaton go out there and get rocked every fifth day. There really is no excuse, money doesn't cut it as a valid one any longer. Maybe their hope is Eaton can just weather the storm until the veteran coming off of surgery and one year away from pitching in a game that meant anything comes back. And that's how you know how bad Eaton is, you as a fan can't WAIT until a guy who hasn't pitched in over a year and coming off of surgery comes back to be your fifth starter. Man you gotta love sports.......
