8-8 ain't great but considering how badly this team had played at times 8-8 brings hope for the future. Cutting the fat will be an important part of this offseason. Guys like Darren Howard and Jevon Kearse will most certainly be released freeing up some cap space. And will Donovan be back? My guess is yes. The only situation where I can see the Birds parting with McNabb is if a team blows them away with a trade offer. Other then that the Birds aren't just going to hand the reigns over to Kevin Kolb, not yet. When Donovan is healthy he's still one of the top 5 QBs in the league. We all saw his game get better and better each week, by the end of the year he looked like the Donovan of old. Another question is will Brian Dawkins be back? Again, yes. Sean Considine hasn't proven he's ready , and your only other option is Quetin Mikell who played well at times but only having Mikell and Considine back there is just asking for trouble. The Birds have a lot of young talent they just need to add some pieces on defense and hopefully a WR and TE on offense as it doesn't look like L.J Smith will be returning and they aren't going to hand the starting job off to Brent Celek.

NHL Winter Classic 2008

They call it the Winer Classic even though it's the first regular season game of it's kind played. Pittsburgh won on a shoot-out goal by Sidney Crosby. For a hockey fan it was fun, too many stoppages, ice was bad, all in all too many problems. The 1st period took over an hour it seemed which is just too long. The NHL needs to work out the bugs , but it's still a great idea. The players all seemed to enjoy themselves even though the conditions weren't perfect. The ice conditions really changed the game made it more of a muck and grind fest in the corners. The NHL has the right idea and I hope they do a Winter Classic every season. Rumors are the Flyers are going to contact Penn State about perhaps playing a game next season against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Happy Valley. Interesting and exciting , however I'm not sure the NHL will bite on the idea of having the Pens play two of these two seasons in a row it's kind of unfair. However, we shall see what happens it would be nice to see the instate rivalry played outside.
